Looking To Change Our Cars So Would Like Some Advise Please?

Ok my car is a 13 year old Nissan Micra and my partner has a Picasso Xsara I am a very nervous driver and so will not drive my partners car as it feels like a tank to me but for financial reasons we are looking at getting rid of both cars and having something that is both roomy inside but not too big that I feel overwhelmed by the size I sat in the new shape Vauxhall Astra and to be honest I fell in love with it it felt like everything was where it needed to be but they are still quite expensive even used ones so what other cars are there that are spacious inside without being overly big?
