White bits in basil pesto sauce?

I bought some basil pesto sauce for some pasta, and I was wondering what the little white chunks of white are in the sauce. On the ingredients label, it says there is garlic and some type of cheese, but I can't tell if it is either of those. Is it common to have white bits in pesto sauce?
