I have grown wonderful Basil, but my question is, is it safe to eat? (Please read why I'm asking)?

When I started the planting pot, I had used dirt for flowers, so I imagine it had some type of fertilizer in it and was wondering if it's ok to eat the Basil since it's growing in that fertilized dirt? I should have thought about that before planting it in that dirt... Thanks..
