I just figured out I have a hypertrophic scar, but only after trying to pop it. What might this cause?

No major harm from trying to pop it. Pressure earrings especially those liked with silicone can help. Better to use them aggressively now before it gets any bigger. Removal followed by the pressure earrings or injection with steroid may help too.
