Potted basil plant questions?

I have a basil plant in a pot that I keep for cooking. It has grown a lot since I got it. The problem is, I live in TX and it is HOT here already. I try to water twice a day but my little plant is suffering. Should I move it to the shade? Everything I can find says basil needs lots of sun. Should I bring it inside? Also, if I let it make flowers will it come back next year? Or should I just keep pinching them off so it will keep growing? Any tips welcome! Thank you!
